Abstract:
The industrial sector of Pakistan has been facing challenges in producing goods of international quality due to the lack of proper machinery for quality analysis. The piston ring is an essential component of internal combustion engines, and its dimensions must meet the required specifications to ensure optimal engine performance. Millat Tractors, a leading tractor manufacturer in Pakistan, faces difficulties in verifying piston groove dimensions accurately due to the unavailability of proper testing rigs in the country. This hinders their ability to ensure that the used pistons meet the required specifications and, consequently, affects the quality and performance of their tractors due to the sticking of piston rings. This thesis aims to develop a local testing rig that can accurately measure the dimensions of piston ring grooves for Millat Tractors in Pakistan. The testing rig will enable Millat Tractors to verify the dimensions of the pistons produced by local vendors, ensuring that they meet the required specifications according to the data sheet used by Massey Ferguson. The project's deliverables include a CAD model of the final design, fabrication of parts according to the design measures, assembly of parts to run the test rig, and development of code/software for running the testing rig. The successful implementation of the testing rig will improve the local industry's ability to produce goods of international quality, enhancing Pakistan's competitiveness in the global market.
