Abstract:
Metasurfaces has gained fascinating interest of researchers for radar cross-section (RCS) reduction applications. Cross polarization conversion metasurfaces and absorptive metasurfaces are used for RCS reduction. Passive metasurfaces exhibit single functionality at the required frequency band. Many multi-functional metasurface are proposed to achieve multiple functionalities at different frequencies. Recently, reconfigurable metasurface for linear to circular polarization conversion in one state and linear to linear polarization conversion in another state are investigated. The switching of operation is performed through the active elements such as transistors, varactor and PIN diodes. Moreover, the re-configurability of the linear to linear polarization conversion in one state and absorption in another state through an active metasurface at same frequency is still unexplored. Reconfigurable reflective sub-wavelength metasurface for absorption and polarization conversion is proposed to perform absorption and polarization conversion. The design exhibits uniqueness in terms of structure, size, absorption ratio and polarization conversion ratio. The proposed single layer structure offers absorption greater than 80 % and polarization conversion ratio greater than 80 %. The design is also angular stable for absorption up to 60 degree and for polarization conversion up to 40 degree. The design has significant applications for scattering and absorption of RCS reduction techniques.
