Abstract:
Autonomous flight complements the pilot’s strategic decision-making capability in emergencies and keeps him focused on his mission especially, in aircraft takeoff and landing phases. Landing is the critical phase of flight. Automatic landing control has played a significant role as far as pilot’s assistance is concerned. In literature much work has been done on automatic landing, but we don’t have any automatic flight controller at national level that may assist the commercial pilots to ensure safe emergency landings. Research work has been carried out on automatic landing algorithm design that will lead to indigenous flight control computer development. Thesis report is divided into 3 parts Part 1 deals with the analysis of LTI models to study overall behavior of aircraft states in 6DOF simulation Part 2 involves autonomous way point navigation with lift off procedure and landing (without wind effects) of small light weight fixed wing aircraft. Part 3 deals with the crosswind landing.
