Abstract:
The main aim of this research is to present research findings and the work carried out related to
the design of three-wheelers with hybrid drivelines, identifying the impact that hybrid vehicles
have on the environment and on fuel efficiency, and using it to locally implement this
phenomenon, setting up the target vehicle specifications, performance goals, selection of motors,
battery, engine generator, and other major and minor components. The performance of HEV
greatly depends upon its architecture and its components like battery, motor, bidirectional energy
converters, and the combustion engine. To select the most optimum design for a power-split
hybrid, considerations regarding the power source efficiency, vehicle driving cycle requirements,
transmission efficiency, and primary control strategies are defined. Vehicle dynamic loads were
calculated including the tractive forces, tractive powers source dynamics, wheel rpms, wheel
torques, velocities and torque at the vehicle differential etc. to cater the drive cycles used (the
Indian Drive Cycle). Based on fuel economy optimization and drivability evaluation, a single
planetary gear set is proposed, according to the gear ratios considered while accounting for the
planetary gear-set configuration design that included factors like the speed ratios that were
calculated from the ratio of teeth. A 3D Solid works model is designed and developed through
initial gearbox design calculations. Then the design is simulated through Ansys and analyzed
thoroughly. Software’s including MATLAB/Simulink were used to simulate the performance of
our three-wheeler for the power-split configuration, accounting for the powers achieved, motor
and engine speeds, electrical losses, motor performance including range, speed changes along
drive-cycles, battery SOC etc. and the power and energy analysis of the engine proposed using
the engine Optimum Operation Lines (OOL) for better comparison of the results, all of which
has been achieved as discussed further this report.
