The study investigates the performance enhancement of Free Space Optical (FSO)
communication systems through the integration of an All Optical Amplify-and-Forward (AOAF) Relay and dual-stage amplification, utilizing Differential Phase
Shift Keying (DPSK) modulated signals. Simulated data indicates that the dual-stage amplification technique, utilizing two Erbium-Doped Fiber Amplifiers (EDFAs) in the proposed AOAF based FSO link, significantly improves the Bit Error
Rate (BER) and link characteristics as compared to the single-stage amplification
model, which uses one EDFA-based AOAF relay. The investigation assesses the
influence of filter wavelength on system performance, showing that certain filter
wavelength results in lower BER values, implying the impact of filter selection in
FSO communication systems. Additionally, a comparison between Gaussian and
Bessel filters demonstrates a higher performance of Gaussian filters in terms of BER
reduction. Furthermore, study draws the conclusion of additional filter components
effects on system performance, showing enhanced BER and link quality. Generally,
the present study is the novel contribution with practical alternatives for enhancing
the efficiency and reliability of FSO communication systems and laying the foundation for the development of high-speed optical communication networks in the future. |
