When handling liquids in laboratories, the handler is frequently exposed to contagious
microbes if samples are dealt manually which can result in serious health problems and, in
some cases, death. Also, the sample amounts are typically in Micro or Nano liters, and the
number of samples transmitted could be massive. Handling liquids by hand is exhausting,
time-consuming, and in some cases impossible. In order to cater this situation, we
automated the process reducing health risks by using an intelligent liquid handling robot. It
consists of a five-degree-of-freedom CNC-based robot with a variable-volume pipette
attached to its end effector for aspiration and fluid dispensing. We intend to use G-code
firmware with the assistance of an interactive GUI, allowing smooth interaction with the
machine and ease of use. |
