Abstract:
The stacking robot is one of the most important pieces of automated warehouse equipment, as well
as the primary means of cargo access. The control system, measurement and servo system, and
mechanical system are the three basic components of a stacking robot. With the advancement of
computer control technology and logistical storage technology, the stacker has become increasingly
popular, and its technical performance is improving. Warehouse stacking Robot (Squid Bot) serves
the purpose of picking a package and then stacking it at the destined place along the aisle. The main
purpose of the Squid bot is to work in a way that it will replace the human need to go and fetch the
required package. With the introduction of squid bot into the warehouses, the production will be
increased ten folds because these robots can work nonstop 24/7 without any hindrance. In a
warehouse, there is actually a fleet of squid robots that work in coordination with each other that
there is almost negligible chance of the robots crashing in to each other. Each squid has a sensor in
front of it to detect the other nearby squids. If two or more squids are in queue, the squid has such
an intelligence that it will wait for the preceding squids to climb and fetch the package, then it will
climb the rail and perform the desired function.
ANSYS software was used to determine the suitable needed for the fabrication of our prototype of
squid. The body of the bot is made up of galvanized steel of 18 gauge due to its strength and
inexpensiveness. As the bot weight will be up to 10 kg, 24 volt DC wiper motors are being used to
move the bot on the rail with the help of spur gears attached to them. The Spur gear works as wheels.
The material for rail is galvanized steel. Thorough calculations and analysis were done to check the
feasibility of the squid bot. The design is four-wheeler bot having two plastic wheels attached on the
inside of each spur gear and two swivel ball caster wheels on the back of the bot, so that bot can
move on ground using the IR sensor.
