This study explains the development of the impeller tumbler test rig developed to test the
ductile material for abrasive wear. There were many industries like construction, mining,
and manufacturing where abrasive resistance played a critical role. With the development
of this test rig, we will be able to test ductile materials. First of all, we will choose the
ductile material we have to test this is an important step because we have to see whether
this material has the following specifications which we require for our testing. Then we
will do some machining on that material to convert it into specimens that we require for
our testing and the selection of abrasive material is also important. After that test specimens
and abrasive material like sand were housed in a housing we made to do testing. In it, we
controlled the amount of abrasive material for different testing we had to perform. Housing
is also rotated at some specific rpm with the help of a gear motor. We can control the test
specimen's speed with the help of the variable frequency drive which is connected to the
main motor and controls its speed while specimens are also mounted on the holder which
is fixed to the main motor shaft. This testing enables us to notice the abrasive wear that the
ductile material has to face in real scenarios. Data like weight loss and surface profile
changes were evaluated to check the ductile material resistance to abrasive wear. Under
various controls, we will check the material performance under different circumstances.
We will perform various tests to apply different approaches to determine the testing results.
This development of the newly developed impeller tumbler test rig gives us information
about the ductile material’s resistance to abrasive wear and will also help in the selection
of materials and engineering choices. In this report procedure, test techniques and their
results are documented. This test method may go towards standardized efforts in the future
to gain acceptance in industries and other sectors and increase its usefulness in material
selection and development. |
