dc.description.abstract This project centered on the development of a custom 3D printer, distinct from commercially available models. The initiative involved a thorough literature review, procurement and use of locally available, cost-effective components, and the creation of a fully functional 3D printer. The literature review provided us with a comprehensive understanding of 3D printing, covering diverse design strategies, materials, and manufacturing techniques. This formed the bedrock of our project. Through reliance on locally sourced components, we aimed to reduce dependence on imports, fostering economic resilience and self-sufficiency. This approach aligned with broader sustainability goals, emphasizing the importance of accessible resources. We also emphasized cost-effectiveness in fabrication, aspiring to provide a more affordable alternative to commercially available 3D printers. Meticulous component selection and efficient assembly techniques were employed to significantly lower production costs, ensuring wider accessibility. Our goal was to develop a fully functional CoreXY 3D printer that is up to industry standards. This involved detailed design engineering, precision manufacturing, and effective calibration. For the prototype developed, the base model of the design was derived from Tronxy X5SA which is a CoreXY configuration 3D printer. The firmware used was the open-source Marlin Firmware 2.0.7. With the improvement in printing speed, a shorter printing time was required for the same model and the efficiency of the printer increased. We also managed to increase the print volume significantly (up to 4 times), compared to those 3D printers which are available in the market for the same price range of PKR 110,000 – 120,000, which is the total cost of our project. In summary, this project represents a comprehensive exploration of custom 3D printer design and fabrication, with a focus on innovation, sustainability, and accessibility. By leveraging local resources and expertise, we contributed to the ongoing evolution of additive manufacturing in the local industry. This will not only advance the boundaries of 3D printing technology but also foster a more inclusive and dynamic manufacturing landscape. en_US
