dc.description.abstract Both the fields of science & engineering have developed so much that we are now able to raise structures that one is utterly astonished to see & few years back those structures were conceived only in dreams, the reason being inadequate construction techniques & inappropriate methods of analysis. Then in conjunction with the development in construction techniques, experts from other countries joined hands for the development of analysis & design processes & then eventually with taller & elegant structures these processes necessitated the use of computers & thus evolved in the shape of softwares. Now, many softwares available have their roots to the same older versions developed initially by structural engineering pioneers & are based upon the Structural Codes developed for their region. So these might not be optimally employed here because geographical, climatic & many other conditions vary here considerably from those where these codes & softwares spawn out. So, it was felt that maybe we should OWN a software that is compatible to our conditions & requirements. Moreover, commercial softwares available do not provide their source code which may be used in many researches & thus we are also handicapped to disturb material behavior & its properties without source code available. It may seem impossible for us initially but examples exist where in graduates from Berkley University started from the basics & produced software STAADPRO which now has evolved to be one of the best softwares available en_US
