dc.description.abstract Diamond Back Wing assembly is an assembly mechanism that is attached with UAVs and some gliding weapons. The primary purpose of the wing assembly is the range enhancement and providing in-flight stability to the attached UAV. The designed back wing assembly is basically a modification of an existing model which only has two frontal wings hence offering less flight time and has concerns related to stability of the wing assembly. In this project, we aim to design a diamond back wing assembly that will contribute to stability and increase the flight range of the attached UAV. The project comprises of Kinematic and Dynamic Analysis portions where the dimensional design parameters, components selection and component placement are done based on analysis. Diamond shaped wing assembly is designed in accordance with the provided parameters. The diamond shaped assembly includes four wings which increase the wing surface area providing the lift. The aerofoil selection based on CFD analysis leads us to aerofoil that can be used for required lift generation that is the primary objective of this process. Selection of joints between the wings and the sliders are also done keeping in consideration the options available in the market. The required force/torque parameters for the wing deployment are calculated and the actuation source that is to be used to provide the power required for the deployment of wings is also included in the assembly. A small scale protype with all the actual features in manufactured using a CNC that represents the actual scale assembly. The diamond back wing assembly designed could be used with multiple purpose UAVs such as weapon carrying UAVs, surveillance UAVs and data acquisition UAVs. The key features of this assembly are compactness and the ability of it to be scaled up and down according to the requirements. en_US
