Abstract:
The objective of this project is to study the working principals of air starting system of
tanks, figure out the problems the system is facing, find solutions to the problems, design
a model for the solution, fabricate and test the solution. The problems in the system are
found to be in the pressure holding bottles of the system, due to obsolete design of the
pressure holding valves, after some time air leaks from the knobs reducing the pressure
below the required pressure. In air starting systems compressed high pressure air is used as
an alternate to electrical starting system to give initial rotation to the crankshaft of large
diesel and gas turbine engines. A pressure holding valve is to be designed which would
hold the pressure up to 150 bar, the valve should not require replacement of other
components of the system and should be easy to install
