Abstract:
The objective of this report is to give a parametric study of low-cost vehicles with
respect to ride comfort and handling stability. This would give us a visualization of
how the suspension parameters of an automobile control the performance of a
vehicle. Usually resulting in a compromised suspension, both handling and ride
comfort play an important role in the performance of a vehicle. In this paper we
describe the role of the suspension systems and show parametric studies w.r.t ride
and handling and perform different ride and handling tests on the given vehicle
using simulation software such as CarSim, Msc Adams, and Lotus Shark.
In the latter stage we are going to describe the common ride and handling problems
faced in low-cost vehicles and how we solve these problems by adjusting the
suspension parameters. A military aspect of suspension systems will also be given
a brief touch. A brief comparison of JDM(Japanese domestic model) cars and local
Pakistan manufactured vehicles will be given and how small tweaks in the JDM
vehicles results in better handling of the vehicle.
