dc.description.abstract |
In a developing country like Pakistan, many buildings do not possess the facility of
elevators and the primary mode of access between different floors is stairs. The purpose of
this project is to design and fabricate a load lifting stair climbing trolley that will move
heavy load through stairs without any inconvenience.
There are several designs for this purpose now available, however they are not ideal owing
to a variety of difficulties. There is a single-wheeled trolley design for moving loads, but it
is not capable of moving things up and down stairs in a smooth manner. There is tri wheel
trolley design to move objects through stairs but the main issue with them is that their
motion along the stairs is not very smooth, they produce jerks while moving across stairs
and there is a less load limit as well that can be carried. The jerky motion is caused by the
tri wheel mechanism's dimensions not matching the stair step size, resulting in bumps as
the trolley goes down the stairs.
The design we're concentrating on is a trolley with a conveyor belt mechanism at the back
that will generate smooth mobility along the stairwell. This design will be a great problem
solver for people, and it will be very useful for those individuals who are handicapped and
old and require care in a multi-storied building. This design is the best possible solution
among all other designs aimed at solving this problem.
The design will be powered with the help of a battery and high torque motor which will
help to easily move heavy loads without much effort. Ergonomics factors are also taken
into consideration while designing the structure of the trolley. After the design was
finalized, an analysis of design was done in order to check for the safety of this design.
Different types of materials were taken into account for the fabrication process keeping in
mind the cost and durability of the available parts in market. Once the design was finalized
and analysis was done, fabrication process starts which is one of the key objectives of our
project. |
