Rehabilitation of a building structure is an economical but difficult process
compared to its total demolition and rebuilding. Detailed investigations
pertaining to its design, construction, soil bearing capacity and drainage and
causes of the damages prior to undertaking such project works is necessary.
The approach is somewhat different from that of site investigation work for
a new work, and usually takes the form of trial pits dug at various points to
expose the soil at foundation level and the foundation structure, together
with deep trial pits or borings to investigate full depth of soil affected by
bearing pressures and water.
All structures are subject to some movement during construction and
certainly afterwards when in service. Durability of buildings so as to last for
long time is an important factor depending on the material used and the
building saved from damaging effects of the environment and water. The
building block named as 144-block at Risalpur cantonment is presently in
dangerous state and therefore it is not in useable state since long. The
objectives of this project are to come up with an economical solution based
on sound engineering practices to bring the 144 block back to the useable |
