High Volume low speed fan, more commonly known as an HVLS fan is a
unique ceiling fan, with a fan blade span of minimum 2m and an RPM varying
from 50-200. Commonly found in warehouses and large volume areas, HVLS
help provide optimum working conditions to the people working in these
rooms while keeping the energy costs to a minimum. However, the issue with
these fans is that they are not common in Pakistan. They are manufactured
abroad and shipped to Pakistan at a very high cost. The effect; companies
install numerous conventional fans that not only result in high electric city
bills but also are quite ineffective. This problem needed a quick, cheap, energy
efficient, reliable, and modern solution. Despite the COVID-19 pandemic and
a government-imposed lockdown, we still wanted to find this solution and
produce a project that can have an impact on the lives of people of Pakistan.
In our project we opted to design and fabricate the entire HVLS fan in
Pakistan. We have used MATLAB to select and calculate the most optimum
parameters. After verifying our values, we have fabricated the HVLS fan
blades along with the motor mount successfully. This report encapsulates the
entire procedure and steps that went into the design and fabrication of an
HVLS fan. At the end, it offers the limitations of this project along with future
improvements that can be made to this project. Along with this it also provides
an account on our experience and the learning outcomes we successfully
achieved while working on this project |
