Abstract:
The concept of earth reinforcement is an ancient technique and demonstrated abundantly in
nature by animals, birds and the action of tree roots. Constructions using these techniques are
known to have existed in the fifth and fourth millenniums BC. This concept is used for the
improvement of certain desired properties of soil like bearing capacity, shear strength (C and φ),
permeability characteristics, etc The knowledge of soil Stabilization in geotechnical engineering
has been well documented. Journal articles and text books on stabilization technology are
available to the students, practicing and consulting engineers in the field of geotechnical
engineering. This state of the art review brings up to date trends in stabilization practice with the
main focus on the jute fiber reinforcement to augment the California Bearing Ratio of Subgrade
of GT. Road Kamara and to avoid rutting. The first part of this report discusses the subgrade
problems and stabilization techniques. The second part describes the methodology of working
