dc.description.abstract |
The most common problem of slope stability and landsliding is being faced by
different societies of Islamabad and its vicinity for last many years with DHA Islamabad
as one of the example.Issues like slumping of deep cuts/excavations and slope
instabilities/seepage and settlement in DHA Islamabad are not only creating problems
for construction work but however are also hazardous to human life.
Slope instabilities/seepage and landslide safety is a major concern of DHA
Islamabad nowadays.There are many steps required to achieve the above mentioned
safety.This study presents evaluation and remedial measures for slope stability in DHA
Islamabad.
The reasons for these soil slope hazards can be attributed to the unengineered
cuts by the contractors.There are however other reasons such as alteration in the
stresses,perhaps by increasing shear stresses or decreasing the effective normal stress
or by reducing the resistance to the movement perhaps by decreasing the shear
strength of the materials within the landslide.
Topographical data and material properties of soil is the backbone of safety
analysis without which it is impossible to carryout any analysis.Therefore in this study
an effort has been made to make a 3D model of understudy slopes in Globber
Mapper,subsurface strata profiling by Res2DInv,carrying out standard penetration tests
to study material properties followed by analysis of slopes using Roc science
software.Indeed it was a real time project addressing real time issues recommending
real time practical solution |
