This research work considers a nanotechnology approach baseduponproduction of metal pre-treatments and organic coatings (a completeprotection system at all) designed from the nano scale. The ultimate goal wasdevelopment of protection systems with improved corrosion resistanceproperties. The corrosion resistance performance of PU-PVP/BNnanocomposites coatings on four different metal substrates (i.e. aluminum, steel, brass and copper) in alkaline medium was studied. These coatingswereapplied on samples by spin coating. Corrosion resistance behavior of thesecoatings was investigated using salt spray method. Dispersionof nanoparticles in the coating matrix was investigated by ScanningElectronMicroscopy (SEM). The coated surface degradation was studiedbyPercentage Weight Loss and Corrosion Rate tests. These investigationsshowed that PU-PVP/BN nanocomposites remarkably improved the corrosionresistance of metals in alkaline media. Such coatings had a higher resistanceto alkaline medium in comparison to other normal coatings/paints. |
