dc.description.abstract Self-consolidating cement based composite is a most recent cementitious system that compacts on its own in narrow places. The constituents of the composite are analogous to the standard systems except for the admixtures that enhance its flowability, durability and fresh/ hardened state properties. This research delineates and experimentally investigates into the behavior and properties of self-consolidating cement based composites reinforced by functionalized and surfactant coated hexagonal Boron Nitride nanoparticles (hBNNPs). Several approaches have been considered to appropriately disperse and achieve effective bonding of hBN nanoparticles with hydration products of cement in self-consolidating cement based systems. The dispersion has successfully been done by covalent as well as non-covalent surface modification that enhanced the interfacial interactions of hBNNPs with cementitious matrice. Characterization of functionalized hBN and reinforced cement nanocomposites was performed by Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR). Effects of hBNNPs on process of hydration within fresh cement mix have also been evaluated by semi adiabatic calorimetry as well as by volume stability stand point. Experimental outcome along with theoretical analysis confirm significant increase and improvement of essential engineering properties along with stable reaction kinetics of cement based nanocomposite containing optimum dose of hBNNPs. en_US
