dc.description.abstract X-band frequency (8 - 12) GHz has become very popular for commercial as well as military applications. The proposed thesis presents the conversion of RF power at 10GHz into usable DC power, with the help of rectenna consisting of three subsystems; the receiving antenna, Low noise amplifier (LNA) and rectification system. The efficiency of the rectenna is being analyzed and improved by Frequency Selective Surface (FSS) array. The proposed work includes the simulation, design, fabrication and characterization of RF Gunn source at 10 GHz and high gain rectenna at the same frequency. Microstrip patch antennas are the most common type of printed antennas that are generally used in wireless communications, satellites, remote sensing and biomedicine. The receiving antenna design comprises a patch antenna in conjunction with FSS superstrate layer for gain enhancement. Simulation of system consisting of RF Gunn source, transmitting antenna in horn shape, receiving patch antenna, FSS array, LNA and rectifier has been performed in HFSS and ADS. Excellent simulated results have been achieved. The measured and simulated results of the different modules of the system and the system itself are in good agreement. en_US
