Abstract:
In the post-9/11, national or transnational terrorism has severely challenged the global peace and stability. Furthermore, it has caused severe socio-economic impacts for various countries. Similarly, the socio-economic and human cost of terrorism has been massive. Consequently, in order to counter the menace of terrorism, Pakistan formulated its counter-terrorism and counter violent extremism strategy to address the structural determinants and institutional related issues. In terms of structural determinants, the major policy focus was brought to inter-identity, regional inequalities, and governance related issues. In this vein, this thesis analysis the main contours of Pakistan’s counter terrorism strategy. In addition to the National Action Plan (2014), particular attention has also been paid to National Internal Security Policy (2014 & 2018). The thesis also discusses legislative and institutional related initiatives which played pivotal role in countering terrorism and violent extremism in the country.
