Abstract:
Lallemantia royleana is a medicinal plant which is used as folk medicine for various types of ailments and infections. It’s also used as sedative in drinks. The basic purpose of this study was to investigate few therapeutic potentials e.g., antioxidant and thrombolytic activities of L. royleana seeds. Antioxidants can scavenge free radicals, which are responsible for thrombosis causing atherothrombotic diseases. The concomitant administration of antioxidant and thrombolytic agent can have a synergistic effect on the treatment of thrombosis and disease associated with it. The nanoparticles synthesizing ability was also aimed to be checked and their antioxidant and thrombolytic activity was also checked. The nanoparticles have increased area due to their nano size. The antioxidant activity was ascertained by DPPH method using three extracts od plant seeds i.e. methanol, n-hexane and distilled water. Same extracts were also used to check the thrombolytic activity. The thrombolytic activity was checked using streptokinase as positive control. The silver nanoparticles were synthesized using silver nitrate. (AgNO3) and methanolic plant seed extract. All the seed extracts showed the antioxidant activity, but the methanolic seed extract showed the highest antioxidant activity and also has the highest thrombolytic activity. The nanoparticles synthesized have antioxidant activity higher than mere the seed extracts. They also possess the thrombolytic activity. As the plant seeds have both antioxidant and thrombolytic activities, both of these properties could lead to an effective treatment for thrombotic diseases.
