Corrosion is categorized as an electrochemical reaction which happens due to unwanted Contact of the metal with its corresponding surroundings. It is degradation of the metal changing its physical and as well its chemical properties sometimes even rendering the metal useless. It may lead to dangerous situations such as degradation of metal in bridges or buildings could lead to collapse. The surgical instruments made by the instruments are mostly used by medical applications which are very corrosive environments and likelihood of corrosion of corrosion is increased. The surgical instruments are made by stainless steels which naturally have an anti-corrosive passive layer of chromium oxide on to p of it which prevents many chemicals to come in contact with the metal protecting it from corrosion however, the passive layer breaks down when it comes in contact with highly corrosive environments such as hydrochloric acid. If a surgical instrument is corroded in cannot be used any more so they have to be replaced and replacements are often very costly. The corrosion is very costly and therefore so a method is to be introduced to reduce the corrosion of the metal. The project aims to develop an anti-corrosion chemical commonly known as a corrosion inhibitor. Ideally the corrosion rate is to be reduced which can be identified by Gamry® Tafel identifier. |
