Abstract:
The logistics cost study of selected import commodities in Pakistan is meant to facilitate trade and transport and to alleviate poverty by reducing logistics costs in Pakistan.
The concept of efficient logistics system is based on just-in-time or time-based activities, to eliminate undue logistics costs. The countries are connected by markets, resources, transport, information, and communication in this globalization process of trade and transport.
The issues involved in efficient national and regional transport logistics system are complex. This includes not only physical bottlenecks in the infrastructure, but also public policies interventions and procedural issues in the logistics chain. The removal of logistical constraints will facilitate savings in economy, decrease in overall trade deficit and reduce final cost of goods.
The study identifies areas of potential savings by removing physical bottlenecks in transportation system as well as procedural impediments in the logistics chain. The significance of cyber trade culture is highlighted in relation with quick response and efficient logistics system, thereby facilitating trade and transport for poverty alleviation in Pakistan.
