Abstract:
This research aims to discover the portrayal of motherhood in Pakistani dramas and how the portrayal effects the perception of personal identity of mothers who watch these drams regularly. In Pakistan media is new and booming hence there are no research currently conducted on portrayal of mother or any other role. A huge knowledge gap exists. The study researches the relationship between portrayal and perception of motherhood using content analysis and applying the cultivation theory. This has been done by examining different Pakistani dramas of the three most viewed channels in Islamabad by drawing up different coding units and using content analysis. The result gave way to a new insight into the portrayal of motherhood leading up to different aspects of Pakistani dramas such as how as the content changes our attitudes changes with it. This study depicted the long-term effect on attitudes, beliefs of Pakistani women concerning social reality. This study further opens doors to new research regarding effects of media or how much media has an effect on the upbringing of children by Pakistani mothers.
