Abstract:
With the passage of time, technology has been growing enormously by resulting in
providing solutions for a variety of teaching and learning problems. In this regard,
providing the context based knowledge has been found integral for effective learning.
This study attempts to unfurl the significance of contextually right content for language
learning particularly for the early learners. It has been investigated that visual aid for
learning has greater impact in retaining the knowledge. 3D animated videos of Urdu
rhymes were made to present the language fundamentals (Alphabets and Nouns) to assess
the factors like engagement and motivation involve in learning. A total of 28 students
participated in the screening session of the tool. The participants’ learning potential and
knowledge retention rate uncovered the effectiveness of context-based visual aid. Mixed
method approach has been employed to collect the data for study and the participants
were observed through video recordings, field notes and recognition pre and posttests. As
a result, the introduced tool has been found effective especially for knowledge retention
and engagement to foster deep and enduring language learning. Such innovation can be
introduced as an assistive technology for language learning to be used at both school and
home to foster deep-rooted learning.
