dc.description.abstract Nowadays everything is about quality & life sustainability of materials in Oil Refineries. The major threat to material immature failure is corrosion. Sulfide corrosion of steels in refineries is a prevalent phenomenon that occurs in oil containing sulphur species between 230°C and 425°C. Sulfide corrosion remained undetectable to CML (corrosion monitoring location) in industries. The aim of this project is to design an apparatus for testing of Sulfide Corrosion and to detect the process and conditions of it in Stainless steels. Corrosion of stainless steel in aggressive environment of sulphur. Stainless steel is a corrosive resistant material. Specifically type 310, 316L and 410 are being used in refineries. There are several internal and external variables controlling the occurrence of Sulfide corrosion. The most important external factors are temperature, concentration and type of sulfur species, and presence of naphthenic acid. The most important internal or metallurgical factor to control Sulfide corrosion is the amount of chromium in the steel. The refinery industry relies today in a vast industrial experience on the variables affecting Sulfide corrosion but very little is known on the basic mechanism of attack. There is ample room for research and the basic understanding of this phenomenon. This project is overseen by Dr. Muhammad Shahid and consulted Dr. Muhammd Mujahid, their knowledge in this regard will undoubtedly prove to be an asset to the success of the projected goal en_US
